I'm excited to share the news that my artist book, ten convenient stores, has been included in the new MIT Press anthology, Various Small Books: Referencing Small Books by Ed Ruscha edited by Jeff Brouws, Wendy Burton and Hermann Zschiegner.
Through the 1960s and 1970s, Ed Ruscha created a number of small format conceptual artist books. These books set other artists in motion and created a topological language to work in. I wasn't aware of the dozens of photographers who were following in this tradition when I began making ten convenient stores. I just knew that I was drawn to the format and photolinguistics of Ruscha's books – so I wanted to try it out. Only after Hermann Zschiegner purchased ten convenient stores for his collection did I become aware of the long tradition and legacy of Ruscha and his books.
